The search for a missing man has expanded into Arborg, Manitoba.

The Winnipeg Police are asking residents and business owners in the Arborg and surrounding areas to check for signs of Eduardo Balaquit, who is considered to be a “victim of crime.”

Eduardo “Eddie” Balaquit, 59 years old, disappeared on June 4, 2018. His last possible location was 380 Keewatin Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he worked as an office cleaner at Westcon Equipment and Rentals Ltd in the Tyndall Park area.

It’s believed Balaquit went missing between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on June 4, 2018.

According to reports, Constable Rob Carver of the Winnipeg Police “won’t reveal why the search has expanded” to Arborg. Ground searches also include homicide investigators, which started on Wednesday, June 13.

It’s not believed Balaquit has ties to Arborg, 118 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
Eduardo Balaquit is 5 foot 4 inches and 155 pounds with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black zip-up sweater, black pants with black shoes.

Even though homicide is investigating, the Winnipeg Police are quoted as saying it doesn’t suggest the outcome of Balaquit’s case, adding “… we believe this may be a homicide … we can’t term the case yet … it’s right in the middle.”

Balaquit’s van was found on June 5, 2018 with the passenger side window smashed. Balaquit’s cellphone was still in the vehicle and other belongings were inside and on the ground. The morning Balaquit’s vehicle was found, a note was left at a Keewatin business. The contents of the letter have not been made public. Allegedly the Keewatin business was targeted – not individuals or employees. Winnipeg Police would not release further details.

Residents and businesses of Arborg and the surrounding area are asked to call police if they find anything suspicious and not to disturb anything that could be potential evidence.

If you have information regarding Eduardo Balaquit, please contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477. Both are anonymous.

The Balaquit family gathered at the Arborg Bifrost Community Centre Wednesday, June 13, to search in Arborg. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
